The newly renovated Sunset + Vine at Wonganella Estate has kept all the original charm, but given the space a much need update to the decor, menu, ambience, and overall vibe. The result? New owners Charlie and Marina have refreshed what was once a tired space into something subtle, luxe, and with a hint of Europe.

Inside you’ll find a beautiful sun-drenched room with Aegean-blue printed cushions, wide open windows and a sweeping vista over the patio, overlooking Wonganella Estate Vineyard and expanding over Tilligerry Creek. In a word: breathtaking!

Customers are already popping in to feast on flavours of the Middle East and Mediterranean, such as meat & cheese boards, fattoush salad, sambousek, za’atar cheesy chips, vine leaves and kibbeh.

Make sure you leave room for dessert – the house special is Osmalieh, a traditional Lebanese dessert prepared with baked vermicelli pastry sandwiched between sweet cream and topped with Arabic candy floss and syrup. Prepared in house by pastry chef Marina, it tastes as amazing as it looks – and it is truly a work of art.

Sunset + Vine Menu

In Middle Eastern and Mediterranean tradition meals are many small dishes shared across the table, mezze style (or tapas in some countries). Charlie invites you to share in that tradition and create your own unique dining experience with friends and loved ones.

The menu offers a short, but beautifully designed carte du jour of tapas style treats, perfectly exhibiting the nutty and aromatic flavours of the middle east. Supporting as much local business as possible, food is simple, fresh and delicious.

To start, we chose the meat and cheese board to share. Classic. The prosciutto is buttery soft, the cheese bursting with flavour and the fruit is fresh and juicy.  It’s a starter reminiscent of summers abroad. The Vegan & Traditional Kibbeh is an early contender for a signature dish. Easy finger food, divine flavours finished with a little yoghurt. Sharing the main stage is the trio of dips – hummus, labneh and baba ghanoush. The flavours are spot on – we wish we were still hungry enough to keep devouring it!

Lucky last, the house special Osmalieh dessert with a side of Lebanese coffee (strong enough to grow hair on your chest!) This dessert is simply divine, and worth a visit just for it. If you try nothing else, you try this dessert.

All meals are perfectly paired with a selection of their wines.

Sunset + Vine manages to strike a balance as somewhere you go for a special occasion, but also somewhere you could go regularly. It’s bright and colourful and has all the right ingredients: fresh food, comfort, and wonderful people looking after you. There’s that feeling of not having to rush; wanting people to be comfortable and well fed.
